An Invitation to Dialogue with the Multicultural Church
Due to the generosity of a grant from Porticus, the Thriving in Ministry Initiative hosted a gathering of 16 Church leaders from different cultural backgrounds on Notre Dame’s campus in April 2022. The goal of the gathering, which also included members of Porticus and faculty and staff from the McGrath institute for Church Life, was to spark conversations that deepen our love for the Church and help us appreciate the ordinary holiness in our different traditions and cultures–and in each other.
This gathering of leaders from the multicultural church included small group discussions, and open mic sessions providing a space for participants to say “what if?” and dream about a Church in which their communities are full contributors.
One McGrath faculty member noted that ‘we saw the Church at work…the Church as she is, on the ground, hoping to hand herself to others, to open unto the future.’
This partnership between the McGrath Institute and Porticus is ongoing. Both teams look to continue the conversation about ministry to the multicultural Church as we look toward the promise of the Church of 2050.
