The Center for Social Concerns is bringing in author, Gary Rivlin, who will present on the stories in his book, Broke, USA: From Pawnshops to Poverty, Inc. – How the Working Poor Became Big Business. He will talk about how mercenary entrepreneurs have taken advantage of an era of deregulation to devise high-priced products to sell to the working poor. Essentially, even in the present difficult financial times, the poor still have assets and unscrupulous practices like the payday loan industry, instant tax refunds, and pawn brokers exploit them. Mr. Rivlin will tell stories of committed heroes fighting back against practices which lowers our nation into a financial crisis
