Why study theology?
We offer online courses grounded in beauty and richness of Catholic theology and faith. Six-week courses offer a foundation of theological topics developed professors and experts from Notre Dame and other Catholic universities. The course lectures and readings are the foundation of each course. Each week students come together, with varying backgrounds, and work through and the course content.
It might seem like theology is just an academic subject. It might seem nice for those who are curious, but otherwise why would anyone bother? For St. Anselm, theology was most properly understood as “faith seeking understanding.” Theology was the fulfillment of this desire to know which arose within the very experience of faith. The understanding that it sought was a search after the truth that had been encountered in the one who said “I am the Truth” (Jn 14:6). Faith in Jesus Christ gave rise to this desire to know him more deeply and to find in him the true meaning of life and the world.
