Descripción
El curso tiene tres enfoques: la encarnación y pasión del Señor y la vida de discipulado que Él nos enseña. La elaboración de todos estos temas depende un encuentro personal. El encuentro con la mujer samaritana en el evangelio de San Juan capítulo 4 es paradigmático para el curso y para el testimonio de todo cristiano. Es decir, aquel retrato de la persona de Jesucristo nos ofrece un ejemplo ideal del efecto salvífico de su presencia personal. El testimonio de la mujer samaritana nos da ejemplo del reto de todo cristiano: “Muchos de los samaritanos de aquella ciudad creyeron en Él por la palabra de la mujer…” (ver Juan 4:39)
El fruto del encuentro con el Señor es un don de fe. El don posibilita el poder de dar testimonio. La meta de un educador en este proceso es la formación de testigos y no sólo el estudio de textos. Estudiaremos textos para profundizar nuestro compromiso personal de dar testimonio. El curso incluirá dos partes del Catecismo, una que trata de la persona de Jesucristo y la segunda que explica el significado de su muerte. Asimismo, durante el curso vamos a seguir la figura de la Samaritana porque una dimensión esencial del proceso, es el acompañamiento.

- Textos breves y enlaces a materiales en línea acompañarán cada unidad para que los participantes complementen su experiencia
Requisitos del Curso
- Lecturas semanales de textos y otros recursos asignados
- Participación en discusiones de las clases usando el área de foros Asignación semanal por escrito (entre 150 y 200 palabras)
- Sesión semanal en Zoom con el o la facilitadora y otros estudiantes
Tiempo Necesario para el Curso
- 4 a 6 horas por semana (esto varía dependiendo de su horario y estilo de aprendizaje)

- Recibirá un certificado de aprobación por 30 horas realizadas una vez que cumpla con los requisitos del curso.

Dr. Peter Casarella
Peter Casarella fue Profesor Asociado de Teología en la Universidad de Notre Dame del 2013 al 2020. Director de Latin American North American Church Concerns, y coordinador del área para el programa de doctorado en Religiones Mundiales y la Iglesia Mundial. Recibió su doctorado en 1992 de la Universidad de Yale. En 2005-2006, sirvió como presidente de la Academy of Catholic Hispanic Theologians in the U.S. (ACHTUS). También ha enseñado en la Universidad de Dallas, la Universidad Católica de América, y en la Universidad de DePaul donde sirvió como fundador y director del Center for World Catholicism and Intercultural Theology. El professor Casarella editó y colaboró en la edición de varias colecciones de ensayos, incluyendo: Cuerpo de Cristo: The Hispanic Presence in the U.S. Catholic Church; Christian Spirituality and the Culture of Modernity: The Thought of Louis Dupré; A World for All? Course Description
The course has three main focuses: the Incarnation and Passion of the Lord and the life of the discipleship He teaches us. Each theme is elaborated based on a personal encounter. The encounter with the Samaritan woman in the gospel of John chapter 4 is paradigmatic to the course and to the testimony of all Christians. That is, the image of the person as Jesus Christ offers an ideal example of the saving effect His personal presence can give. The testimony of the Samaritan woman exemplifies a challenge all Christians face: “Many of the Samaritans of that town believed in Him because of the woman's testimony...” (see John 4:39).
The fruit of the encounter with the Lord is a gift of faith. This grace empowers us to give testimony. The goal of an educator in this process is the formation of witnesses and not just the study of texts. Rather, we will study texts in order to deepen our personal commitment to give testimony. The course will cover two parts of the Catechism, one dealing with the person of Jesus Christ and the other explaining the significance of his death. Additionally, during this course we will follow the figure of the Samaritan woman, because an essential dimension of the process is accompaniment.

- Jesus in the Patristic era, the Middle Ages, and the Contemporary Church
Unit 3: "He became flesh" and was "born of the Virgin Mary"
Unit 4: "He was crucified, died, and was buried"
- The Passion and Christian Witness
Unit 5: Discipleship
- The Following and Proclamation of the Incarnate Word and the New Evangelization

Course Requirements
- Weekly reading of assigned texts and materials
- Participation in class discussions in the forums (minimum of two comments, questions or responses each week)
- Weekly written assignment (150-200 words)
- Weekly chat session with facilitator and other students (4 required throughout course)
Time Required
- 4 to 6 hours per week (this varies from student to student depending on learning style and available study time)
Course Certificate
- A Certificate of Completion awarding 30 Contact Hours upon completion of all course requirements.

Dr. Peter Casarella
Peter Casarella was an Associate Professor of Theology at the University of Notre Dame from 2013-2020. He served as Director of Latin American/North American Church Concerns, and area coordinator for the PhD program in World Religions World Church. He received his PhD in 1992 from Yale University. In 2005-2006 he served as president of the Academy of Catholic Hispanic Theologians in the U.S. (ACHTUS). He has also taught at the University of Dallas, The Catholic University of America, and DePaul University, where he served as founding Director of the Center for World Catholicism and Intercultural Theology. Professor Casarella has edited or co-edited several volumes of essays, including: Cuerpo de Cristo: The Hispanic Presence in the U.S. Catholic Church; Christian Spirituality and the Culture of Modernity: The Thought of Louis Dupré; A World for All?
