Developing a Catholic Response to AI: A Diocesan Case Study

This talk will focus on the Archdiocese of Malta (Europe) as a case study for how a diocese may approach and tackle the various issues pertaining to AI and the societal changes it brings with it.  The Archdiocese of Malta has set up the Office of the Diocesan Coordinator for AI as well as launching a Position Document on the ethical adoption of AI within the local context.  Ways in which the Archdiocese is addressing the ethical challenges being raised via education and advocacy will be explored, as well as how this ministry could also serve an evangelizing role. 

Invited Speaker

Rev. Dr. Jean Gové is a Research Affiliate at the AI & Humanity Lab (University of Hong Kong) and a PhD graduate of the University of St. Andrews. As the Diocesan Coordinator for AI in the Archdiocese of Malta, he leads AI literacy and formation initiatives for schools and pastoral workers. Internationally, he serves as the Holy See's representative at the Council of Europe and coordinates the European AI Research Group for the Vatican's Dicastery for Culture and Education.
