Grant Gasse, Ph.D.

Grant Gasse joined the McGrath Institute for Church Life in 2024 as Postdoctoral Research Associate. Grant supports the McGrath Institute through research and writing on Mary in the life and faith of the early Church and by assisting in the development of programming to renew and strengthen Marian scholarship and devotion. He also teaches courses in the Department of Theology.

Grant studied liberal arts at Thomas Aquinas College before earning his M.T.S. and Ph.D. in Theology from the University of Notre Dame. His work focuses on early Christian conceptions of language and the development of Christian theology as a discipline, especially in the thought of the second-century bishop St. Irenaeus of Lyon. Grant is currently researching Irenaeus’ theology of Mary.

Grant and his wife, Annalisa, live in South Bend. He enjoys crossword puzzles, learning new crafts (like book-binding and sewing), and digging through baseball analytics.
