Bishop D'Arcy Program in Priestly Renewal

The Bishop John M. D’Arcy Program in Priestly Renewal is a week-long experience of intellectual and spiritual renewal for invited diocesan priests from various dioceses of the United States. The retreat-style conference is held each summer on the campus of the University of Notre Dame.

During the course of the week, attending priests have opportunities for study and reflection, individual spiritual direction, workshops, priestly fraternity, and ample time to rest, relax, and take full advantage of the Notre Dame campus.

This experience is fully funded and underwritten by the McGrath Institute for Church Life at the University of Notre Dame with the support of a generous grant from Lilly Endowment Inc.

The week at Notre Dame last summer was filled with the personal experience of God’s love. I felt His presence in all that we did, and through the care of those who were leading the seminar and supporting us through the week.

Rev. Stephen Giannini

In sessions with other priests, laughter, connecting with some of the people I encountered on campus, or simply walking through this campus, this became the necessary field hospital in my life.

How to Participate

The McGrath Institute for Church Life at the University of Notre Dame invites select bishops to nominate one priest from his diocese who, in the bishop’s judgment, has rendered good and faithful service to the Church and who might both benefit from and enjoy this opportunity.

A nominated priest should fulfill these three criteria:

  1. Is ordained a minimum of 10 years

  2. Lives and works in a parish

  3. Is a diocesan priest

The ideal nominee is a leader in his diocese, as we hope that the program will not only benefit those priests in attendance, but may also spark ideas for priestly renewal opportunities in their own dioceses. After all, the aim of the McGrath Institute for Church Life is always to build up, and never to replace, the local Church.

We ask to receive your priest nomination no later than January 8, so that we can offer the place to another participant should you decide not to nominate a priest.
