Descripción
Las Sagradas Escrituras contienen el relato del amor de Dios con la humanidad, es más, con toda la creación. Este relato no fue escrito sólo para que fuera estudiado en las universidades; fue escrito para que la humanidad entera conozca a Dios y sepa que Él nos invita a vivir en una relación íntima y personal con Él.
Este curso es una introducción a un tesoro sin límites. Primeramente, se tocarán temas generales sobre la formación del texto escrito, inspiración, revelación, interpretación y estructura. Luego se dará una presentación resumida de dos conceptos importantes que son fundamentales en el relato bíblico: alianza y reino. Seguidamente, el enfoque será Jesucristo, la imagen visible de Dios, la Palabra Viva, revelada en la Palabra Inspirada. Finalmente se examinará el lugar central de la Biblia en la vida de la Iglesia. Este curso invita al participante no solamente a estudiar la Biblia, sino también a meditar con ella, a conocer a Dios a través de ella, a profundizar su relación con Dios, y por tanto a vivir como discípulo que comparte la alegría de la Palabra con la comunidad.

Requisitos del Curso
- Lecturas semanales de textos y otros recursos asignados
- Participación en discusiones de las clases
- Tarea (entre 150 y 200 palabras)
- Reunión semanal con video con el o la facilitadora y otros estudiantes

Ximena DeBroeck, PhD
La Dra. DeBroeck es Directora de Formación Pastoral y profesora en el Seminario Mount St. Mary’s, Emmitsburg, MD. También sirve como Asesora Académica para el Programa de Teología en Línea –“Camino”– de la Universidad de Notre Dame. Es miembro del St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology. Anteriormente, fue Directora de Formación Catequética y Pastoral de la Arquidiócesis de Baltimore, donde también tuvo el cargo de Directora de la Oficina del Culto Divino y Formación Sacramental. Fue profesora de Sagradas Escrituras en St. Mary’s Seminary. Ella ha desarrollado cursos pastorales, impartidos en línea, en la Universidad de Notre Dame y en la Universidad de Dayton. Ha publicado varios artículos sobre interpretación bíblica y sobre formación sacramental, y también la “Guía de Estudio” para el libro de Sherry Weddell, Formación de Discípulos Intencionales. Adicionalmente, ella es co-autora del Manual para proclamadores de la palabra 2022. Ha presentado un seminario de posgrado sobre “Ritual y Memoria” en la Universidad de San Andrés en Escocia, y ha sido invitada a dar conferencias en varias diócesis y parroquias.
La Dra. DeBroeck creció en el Ecuador. Recibió su Maestría en Teología, con concentración en Sagradas Escrituras, de St. Vincent Seminary; su Licenciatura Pontificia en Teología de St. Mary’s Seminary, y su doctorado en Teología Sistemática de Duquesne University. Su trabajo se enfoca en Escritura, teología sacramental y litúrgica, discipulado, evangelización y catequesis.

Course Description
Holy Scripture contains the story of God's love for humanity and for all of creation. This story wasn't written only to be studied in universities; it was written so the entire human race might know God's invitation to live in an intimate and personal relationship with Him.
This course is an introduction to the limitless treasures found in the Bible. First, we will discuss general themes about the development of the written text, inspiration, revelation, interpretation, and structure. Then we will summarize two fundamental concepts in Scripture: covenant and kingdom. Next, we will focus on Jesus Christ, the visible image of God, the Living Word, revealed in the Inspired Word. Finally, we will examine the central role of the Bible in the life of the Church. This course invites the participant not only to study the Bible but also to meditate on it, to know God through it, to deepen his or her relationship with God, and to live as a disciple who shares the joy of the Word in the community.

Ximena DeBroeck, PhD
Ximena DeBroeck, STL, Ph.D., is faculty and Director of Pastoral Formation and faculty at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary, Emmitsburg, MD. She also serves as Senior Academic Advisor for the University of Notre Dame’s Camino, their online Spanish theology formation. She is a senior fellow at St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology. Until recently, she was the Director of Catechetical and Pastoral Formation at the Archdiocese of Baltimore and previously served as its Director of Divine Worship and Sacramental Formation. She was Assistant Professor of Sacred Scripture at St. Mary’s Seminary. Her publications include articles on Scripture interpretation and sacramental formation, the Study Guide for Sherry Weddell’s book Forming Intentional Disciples, and online pastoral courses for the University of Notre Dame and the University of Dayton. Additionally, she has co-authored Manual para proclamadores de la palabra 2022 (Workbook for Lectors, Gospel Readers, and Proclaimers of the Word). She presented a doctoral seminar on “Ritual and Remembrance” at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland, and was invited to speak at various diocesan and parish events.
Dr. DeBroeck grew up in Ecuador. She earned her Theology MA, with Scripture concentration, from Saint Vincent Seminary, her License in Sacred Theology from St. Mary’s Seminary, and her doctorate in Systematic Theology from Duquesne University. Her teaching and research include Scripture, sacramental and liturgical theology, discipleship, evangelization, and catechesis.
